Being Positive in Tough Times

By | May 29, 2016

Throughout our lives tough times will come and go, but being positive in tough times will help the lows not be so low, and the highs be that much higher.  Being positive when things aren’t going your way is easier said than done though, so let’s look at ways to help stay positive and discuss why it is so important!

Why a Positive Outlook is so Important

Before you can start thinking of ways to help remain positive, it is better to understand why a positive outlook is so important in the first place.

It might seem pretty obvious to most that just being happy and feeling good about a situation a good way to go about things, but why then when trouble strikes, do many people simply either throw their hands up in defeat or hide their heads in the sand until the trouble passes?  It’s because most people don’t understand the value of that positive outlook and believe that giving up outweighs the work needed to improve the situation!

This is the illusion that so many fall for.  The truth is that negativity has much further reaching consequences and also has a compounding effect.  Negativity spreads like an infection to everything you do, and this goes along with just pretending the problems aren’t there.  It affects your partners, your kids, your friends, your ability to work, your ability to sleep, your appetite, and the list just continues to go on and on.  Sometimes it doesn’t even stop there and the people around then become negative as well.

The good news is that you can take all of what I said and simply reverse it for a positive outlook.  I don’t know about you, but I think that is pretty awesome when you think about positive thinking and its potential from compounding effects!  Now that you can see why it is so important, maybe you would like to know some techniques to help you stay positive in those tough times.

How to Stay Positive in Tough Times

There are actually a lot of different ways to keep that positive thinking going even when things are going against you.  Some of them are maybe fairly common knowledge but some might be new to you, and that is great!

Get Outdoors!

It has been proven through numerous studies that exercise reduces levels of mental stress.  What berter way to promote a positive mindset than with reduced stress!  It will also make you more fit, obviously, and that will help your self confidence which plays a big part in depress and negative thinking.  So go for a nice jog, lift some weights, go for a long swim, or anything else to help you burn away calories and stress.

Relax and Meditate!

Meditation is really remarkable.  I was ameditation-by-sea skeptic and thought it was a bit kooky, but after trying it out I am now a true believer in meditation.  I have never felt more relaxed and at peace then when I can get away for 30 minutes in a quiet and perhaps dark room and just sit or lay comfortably while listening to some meditation sounds.  Sitting there thinking about leaving all my baggage behind and taking my mind to a nice beach or out on a sailboat in the middle of the vast ocean while imagining all the calming sounds that can come with such areas is a great way to relieve tension and negative thinking behind.

Whatever way you decide to go with promoting good feelings and a positive outlook on life, do it whenever possible.  You will not only feel great, but you will find that your life is full of a lot more success!
